How a Three-Lane Speed Gate Secured a Multi-Tenant Office Building in Jiangxi, China

Every morning during peak hours, employees from different companies arrive at the same office building at almost the same time. For an ordinary office building, the entrance may simply be a place for people to enter and leave. However, for this multi-tenant office building in Jiangxi Province, China, the entrance also plays an important role in pedestrian flow, access security and independent personnel management for each company.

Because several companies share the building, the property management team needed to help employees enter efficiently while preventing unauthorized visitors from accessing the office areas. An open entrance could not verify each person’s identity. Relying entirely on security guards for manual checks would also create long queues during morning and evening peak periods. The customer therefore needed a pedestrian access control system that could verify identities without slowing down daily traffic.

Three Lanes for High-Volume Pedestrian Traffic

After evaluating the available entrance width and peak-hour traffic, we provided a TD502 long-cabinet speed gate system with three pedestrian lanes. The installation consists of four cabinets forming three lanes. The two outer cabinets use single mechanisms, while the two middle cabinets use dual mechanisms. Sharing the middle cabinets helps increase the number of lanes while making efficient use of the available entrance space.

The three lanes can be configured for entry, exit and flexible traffic management. During the morning peak, more lanes can be assigned to incoming employees. During the evening peak, the lane directions can be adjusted according to the outbound traffic. Each TD502 lane is designed for a throughput of approximately 20–60 people per minute. Actual throughput depends on the identification method, pedestrian behavior and operating mode.

The passage memory function can also record multiple consecutive authorizations. The gate remains open until all authorized users have passed, helping reduce waiting times during busy periods.

Card and QR Code Access for Multiple Companies

To support the independent personnel management requirements of the different companies, the customer requested card readers and QR code verification devices to be integrated into the top of the speed gate cabinets.

Employees can use authorized access cards, while visitors, temporary workers and service personnel can receive temporary QR codes. When connected to an access control or visitor management system, different permissions can be assigned according to the company, user and permitted access period. After successful verification, the access control system sends an opening signal to the speed gate. The gate wings open automatically and close after the authorized person has passed. This prevents unauthorized people from entering directly and reduces the need for receptionists or security guards to check every person manually.

Safety Protection During Every Passage

An office entrance needs to be efficient, but pedestrian safety is equally important. The TD502 is equipped with eight pairs of infrared sensors that continuously monitor a person’s position inside the lane.If a person or obstacle is detected while the gate wings are closing, the system stops the closing process and activates a warning. If the wings encounter resistance, they can stop or rebound to the open position, helping reduce the risk of injury.

The system also supports anti-tailgating detection. If an unauthorized person attempts to follow an employee through the lane, audible and visual alarms can notify the site management team. For the property operator, this means the speed gate does more than simply open and close. It continuously checks whether each passage is authorized and safe.

Designed for Reliable Long-Term Operation

  1. The TD502 uses a 1.5 mm SUS304 stainless-steel cabinet and a brushless DC mechanism, providing a stable structure for frequently used office entrances.
  2. The mechanism is designed for at least five million normal operating cycles, helping reduce long-term maintenance and replacement requirements.
  3. The long-cabinet design creates a clearly defined pedestrian lane and gives the office entrance a clean, organized and professional appearance.
  4. LED indicators display the permitted direction and current gate status, allowing employees to quickly identify which lane they should use.
  5. In the event of a power failure or fire alarm signal, the gate wings open automatically to provide an unobstructed route for emergency evacuation.

More Than Just a Set of Speed Gates

After installation, the customer received more than three automatically controlled pedestrian lanes. The project created a more suitable entrance management solution for a multi-tenant office building.

The main benefits include:

  • Faster identity verification and reduced peak-hour queues
  • Independent access permissions for different companies
  • Flexible QR code access for temporary visitors
  • Anti-tailgating and unauthorized entry alarms
  • Reduced manual identity checks for security personnel
  • Flexible lane direction management during different periods
  • A professional long-cabinet design that matches the office lobby

From identity verification and pedestrian control to emergency evacuation, the TD502 helps the customer balance security, efficiency and user experience.

Multiple Speed Gate Designs for Different Projects

In addition to the long-cabinet multi-lane speed gate used in this project, XIBING PARK provides other configurations for different spaces, pedestrian volumes and verification requirements:

  • Compact single-lane speed gate: suitable for small offices, elevator lobbies, fitness centers and entrances with limited space
  • Compact multi-lane speed gate: suitable for projects that require higher throughput with a smaller equipment footprint
  • Facial recognition multi-lane speed gate: suitable for contactless access, prevention of shared access cards and integration with attendance management systems

Customers can select the appropriate design based on the available entrance width, required number of lanes, pedestrian types, access verification method and project budget.
